The Rwanda Medical and Dental Council (RMDC) informs training institutions, teaching hospitals, and other stakeholders that the approved East African Community (EAC) guidelines and checklists for medical and dental education and training are now available.

Institutions are expected to use these documents for self-assessment, gap analysis, quality improvement planning, and preparation for national and joint EAC inspections. Each guideline sets out the standards an institution is expected to meet, while the accompanying checklist is the tool used to assess compliance with those standards.

APPROVED EAC GUIDELINES AND CHECKLISTS

1. DENTAL SCHOOLS AND TEACHING HOSPITALS.

Institutions seeking to establish a new dental program should consult the Guidelines for New Dental Schools & Teaching Hospitals, & the Checklist for New Dental Schools & Teaching Hospitals.

Institutions already offering dental training should refer to the Guidelines for Existing Dental Schools & Teaching Hospitals and the Checklist for Existing Dental Schools & Teaching Hospitals.

2. MEDICAL SCHOOLS AND TEACHING HOSPITALS.

Proposed new medical schools should be guided by the Guidelines for New Medical Schools & Teaching Hospitals and the Checklist for New Medical Schools & Teaching Hospitals.

3. SPECIALTY TRAINING INSTITUTIONS.

Institutions offering postgraduate specialty training should refer to the Guidelines for Specialty Training Institutions & Teaching Hospitals and the Checklist for Specialty Training Institutions & Teaching Hospitals.
