Mandatory required CPD Credits for July 2024-June 2025 license renewal

The Rwanda Medical and Dental Council (RMDC) wishes to bring to the attention of all Medical Doctors and Heads of public and private Health Facilities and health-related NGOs that RMDC secretariat started to receive applications for Annual License for the fiscal year July 2024-June 2025.

The Bureau of National Council Board resolved that Medical Doctors are mandatorily requested to submit any evidence of at least 50 CPD credits (either from the provided RMDC e-learning or any other CME) while applying for License renewal.

The application materials for License renewal should be composed of :
1. Evidence of 50 CPD credits,
2. Current License to practice
3. Evidence of payment of annual license application fees (Bank Slip).

Effective July 1, 2024, any Doctor without a valid Annual License or any person employing such a Doctor, will be contravening Law No 44/2012 of 14/01/2013, especially in article 32 stating that “any medical doctor or dental surgeon who practices his/her profession without being licensed shall be brought before the competent courts of law. The provisions of paragraph one of this article shall apply also to any employer of a medical doctor or a dentist referred to in that Paragraph”.

In addition, the Registration and Licensing policy states that “Rwanda Medical and Dental Council has a mandate to ensure Medical Doctor who makes decision that affect directly or indirectly the Rwandan population has adequate knowledge and is updating it. Doctors in national programs who do supervision, trainings, and establish guidelines have to be registered and licensed with the Rwanda Medical and Dental Council and show evidence of updating their knowledge”.
