CALL FOR APPLICATION FOR PEER REVIEW OF GENERAL PRACTITIONERS

The Ministerial Order N° 20/20 of 03/06/2010 establishing Internship for Medical Doctors preconizes a one year period of intensive internship training for every medical doctor who successfully completes a bachelor`s degree in general medicine.

The Registration and Licensing policy of Rwanda Medical and Dental Council stipulates that “candidate who graduated from universities that are not recognized by EAC Boards/Councils or any other foreign University, shall be requested to undergo one year internship program as Intern Doctor after passing successfully Council Qualifying Examinations”.

The National Internship Committee Meeting of December 31st,2021 resolved that candidate who passed Council exams and have been working in Hospitals for more than 12 months shall undergo peer review process to confirm whether they have required skills and attitudes as per their logbooks and patient outcome. Whoever judged competent (being completed 4 rotations in four department : Internal medicine, Gynecology, Surgery and Pediatrics) shall be recommendable for National Internship Certificate which shall be presented to RMDC for full registration.

This peer review exercise will be a one-off activity. Those who will miss this opportunity and those who will not qualify will have to go through the formal internship process.

Eligibility criteria :
To be eligible for peer review, the candidates for the peer-review exercise should :

  • Have successfully completed Medicine in a recognized Foreign Medical School and present notarized Equivalence issued by Higher Education Council (HEC),
  • Have successfully passed the RMDC licensure examinations and present evidence
  • Have undergone observership of at least 12 consecutive months in 4 departments

To apply for peer review, eligible candidates should submit the following :

1.Download the Application form available
2.Application fees of 50,000FRW paid at RMDC Bank Account : No.00040-00282401-67, in Bank of Kigali
3.Evidence that the candidates passed the licensing examinations (copy of results)
4.Observership certificate (of atleat 12 months
5.Copy of Equivalence
6.Certificate of good status (showing that the candidate was not involved in medical malpractices)
7.Copy of observership certificate
8.Fully Signed Logbook

The above-mentioned documents should reach the reception of the Rwanda Medical and Dental Council by May 25th,2022 at 14h00.
