Rwanda Surgical Society Conducted a Basic surgical skills course at Mille Collines Hotel
Course objectives :
• To learn and be able to perform safe operating techniques
• To understand that careful and sound aspects of techniques are more important than simple manual dexterity or speed
• To understand the importance of and be able to practice the
universal precautions for safe theatre practice, especially in
emergency situations
• To understand and be able to demonstrate the principles of handling tissue and sound anastomotic techniques recognizing differing requirements for different sites, e.g. bowel and vascular tissue.
• To understand the principles of identifying and managing injury to
tendons and be able to perform tendon repair
• To understand the principles of and perform fracture assessment,
stabilization and plaster techniques
