The 20th Annual Association of Medical Councils of Africa (AMCOA) Conference

The 20th Annual Association of Medical Councils of Africa (AMCOA) Conference is taking place August 22-26, 2016 at the Makokola Retreat in Mangochi, Malawi. The theme of the conference is "Medical and Dental Malpractice in the 21st Century."

The Association of Medical Councils of Africa (AMCOA) is an Association of Medical Regulatory Authorities in Africa.

The primary purpose of the association is to support medical regulatory authorities in Africa in the protection of the public interest by promoting high standards of medical education, registration and regulation, and facilitating the ongoing exchange of information among medical regulatory authorities.The association further exists to provide guidance to healthcare professional registered by member states with a view to ensure the provision of quality healthcare by the way of guidelines on various aspect of healthcare delivery such as setting standards for education and training, ethics guidelines , encouraging Continuous Professional Development (CPD) among others.

The Official 2016 Conference opening was undertaken by the Hon. Minister of Health Malawi, Dr Peter Kumpalume. This followed by an inspirational key note address from Dr Humayun Chaudhry, the upcoming Chairman of IAMRA.

The following Countries were represented during this 2016 AMCOA Conference :
Rwanda, Ghana, Malawi, Lesotho Mauritius, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Soudan.

Rwanda Medical and Dental Council were represented by Dr Rudakemwa Emmanuel, Chair and Thadee Vuguziga, The Deputy Registrar.
Rwanda Allied Health Professions Council was represented by Major Gasherebuka Jean Damascene who attended the Conference as an observer in the process of becoming full member.
