Brief presentation of the Rwanda Medical and Dental Council

The structures of the Rwanda Medical and Dental Council were put in place on May 31st 2003 following the promulgation of law N° 30/2001 of the 12th June 2001, which changed to LAW N°44/2012 of 14/01/2013 outlining the organization, functioning, and competence of the Council. It is a professional, administrative and jurisdictional body that defends and oversees the medical profession.

Vision of the Rwanda Medical and Dental Council

The Vision of the Rwanda Medical and Dental Council is to have a Rwandan society where the population has access to quality health care services, where the medical profession excels and reinforces its dignity by continuous progress.

Mission of the Rwanda Medical and Dental Council

• To safeguard moral values of the medical and dental profession.

• To encourage access to the profession, to excellence of medical doctors’ skills and to quality medical and dental practice.

• To be the guardian of medical and dental deontology and ethics.

• To give advice about medical and dental practice and health policies.

• To define the standards of elementary, advanced and continuous training adapted as much to the progress of medical and dental practice as to the changing society.

• To be a limb of justification the degrees of medical doctors and dentists.
